History

Founded in 1882, Proteus is the second-oldest parading krewe. It stopped parading in 1992 rather than comply with the city desegregation ordinance, then returned in 2000 - the only one of the three holdout old-line krewes to do so. It rolls Lundi Gras with some of the most beautiful traditional floats in Carnival.

Where to watch

The classic Carnival corridor, and where nearly every major parade rolls. Most line up Uptown, head down St. Charles Avenue under the oaks, and finish on Canal Street downtown.
