Historia
First appearing in 1909, Zulu is one of the most historically significant Black Carnival organizations and rolls first on Fat Tuesday morning. Its hand-painted coconut is so prized - and once so contested in court - that after a 1987 insurance and liability crisis, Louisiana passed the "Coconut Bill" in 1988 to protect the tradition. Coconuts are handed down from the floats, never thrown.
